IL File Complications
Troubles Opening IL Files
Microsoft Visual Studio is Not Installed
If you attempt to load your IL file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open IL Files". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Visual Studio is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your IL with Microsoft Visual Studio, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: Another IL-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Microsoft Visual Studio Requires Update
In other instances, your MSIL Assembler Input File file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Visual Studio. Download the latest Microsoft Visual Studio version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This issue mainly occurs when your MSIL Assembler Input File file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Visual Studio than you have on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the IL file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening IL files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed on your computer.
Additional IL Opening Issues
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed, you can still experience difficulties opening ILs. If you are continuing to have errors with loading IL files, other external issues might be to blame. These issues include:
- Windows Registry IL file paths that are incorrect
- Corruption of the IL file description inside the Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the IL format
- The IL itself is corrupted
- Your IL is infected with malware
- Hardware related to ILs has device driver corruption
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your MSIL Assembler Input File file
