IPI File Complications
Troubles Opening IPI Files
Missing Microsoft Windows
You attempt to load your IPI file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The IPI File Extension". Usually, this is because you do not have Microsoft Windows for %%os%% installed. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the IPI file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your IPI, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Microsoft Windows Requires Update
In other instances, your Microsoft Windows Installer Data file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Windows. Installing the latest version of Microsoft Windows from Microsoft Corporation is recommended. This issue mainly occurs when your Microsoft Windows Installer Data file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Windows than you have on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the IPI file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening IPI files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other Causes of IPI File Opening Problems
You can still experience errors opening IPI files even with the latest version of Microsoft Windows installed on your PC. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening IPIs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Windows Registry IPI file paths that are incorrect
- The IPI file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Defective install of a IPI program, such as Microsoft Windows
- IPI file corruption
- The IPI is infected with a virus
- IPI-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Microsoft Windows Installer Data file successfully
