Understanding JNT Issues
Frequent JNT Opening Issues
Microsoft Windows Journal Isn't There
If you attempt to load your JNT file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open JNT Files". If so, it typically means that you don't have Microsoft Windows Journal installed for %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your JNT file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens JNT files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Wrong Version of Microsoft Windows Journal is Installed
It is possible that your version of Microsoft Windows Journal isn't able to open your Windows Journal File file due to incompatibility. Download the latest Microsoft Windows Journal version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Most of the time your Windows Journal File file was created by a newer Microsoft Windows Journal than what you have installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the JNT file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: Not having the right Microsoft Windows Journal version on your computer can cause problems opening JNT files.
Associated Difficulties Loading JNT Files
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Windows Journal installed, you can still experience difficulties opening JNTs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening JNTs. Other contributing causes:
- Invalid JNT file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Corruption of the JNT file description inside the Registry
- Partial installation of Microsoft Windows Journal that did not fully complete
- The JNT itself is corrupted
- The JNT is infected with a virus
- JNT-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Windows Journal File files
