JPN Troubleshooting
Issues Opening JPN Files
Missing Microsoft Notepad
When trying to open your JPN file, you get the error "Can't Open JPN File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Notepad missing in %%os%%. The typical path of opening your JPN with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Notepad installed, and you know of another program to open your JPN file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Wrong Version of Microsoft Notepad is Installed
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Windows Japanese Noise-Word List File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft Notepad installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Windows Japanese Noise-Word List File file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft Notepad than what's installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your JPN, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Regardless, most of the JPN file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft Notepad installed.
Other Causes of JPN File Opening Problems
Although you might already have Microsoft Notepad or another JPN-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Windows Japanese Noise-Word List File files. Other JPN opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Problems unrelated to software:
- Windows Registry JPN file paths that are incorrect
- Accidental deletion of the description of the JPN file in the Windows registry
- Microsoft Notepad or another JPN application experienced a flawed installation
- Your JPN can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- JPN file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Drivers associated with JPN software need to be updated
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Windows Japanese Noise-Word List File file
