Understanding JW Issues
Troubles Opening JW Files
Microsoft WordPad Removed
When you double-click your JW file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft WordPad isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your JW with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your JW, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Obsolete Version of Microsoft WordPad
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft WordPad won't support your Microsoft WordPad Document file. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft WordPad (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Your Microsoft WordPad Document file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft WordPad than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Investigate your JW file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening JW files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft WordPad installed on your computer.
Additional JW Opening Issues
Errors opening Microsoft WordPad Document files can still occur even with the latest Microsoft WordPad software installed on your computer. Other JW opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Problems unrelated to software:
- JW file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Deletion of the JW file description from the Registry by mistake
- Microsoft WordPad or another JW application experienced a flawed installation
- Your JW file is corrupted (issues with your Microsoft WordPad Document file itself)
- Your JW is infected with malware
- Device drivers for JW-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Microsoft WordPad Document files
