Troubleshoot LBX Files
Troubles Opening LBX Files
Missing Microsoft Visual FoxPro
When you double-click your LBX file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Visual FoxPro missing in %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your LBX file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens LBX files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Wrong Version of Microsoft Visual FoxPro is Installed
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Visual FoxPro won't support your FoxPro Label File file. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Visual FoxPro (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your FoxPro Label File file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Visual FoxPro than you have on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your LBX file and clicking "Properties".
Conclusion: The majority of LBX file opening issues are due to not having the correct Microsoft Visual FoxPro version installed.
Additional LBX Opening Issues
Assuming you have the right Microsoft Visual FoxPro version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening LBX files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening LBX files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- LBX file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry LBX description
- Corrupt install of Microsoft Visual FoxPro or other LBX-related program
- Your LBX file is corrupted (issues with your FoxPro Label File file itself)
- Malware-tainted LBX file can't be opened
- LBX-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your FoxPro Label File file
