Understanding LGP Issues
Typical LGP Opening Challenges
Missing Microsoft Windows
If you attempt to load your LGP file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open LGP Files". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Windows isn't installed on your PC. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the LGP file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Windows installed, and you know of another program to open your LGP file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Obsolete Version of Microsoft Windows
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Windows won't support your Microsoft Windows Application Log File file. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft Windows installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is predominately due to having a Microsoft Windows Application Log File file version that was created by a newer version of Microsoft Windows than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your LGP file and clicking "Properties".
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening LGP files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft Windows installed.
Other Causes of LGP File Opening Problems
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Microsoft Windows will resolve your issue. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening LGP files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Windows Registry LGP file paths that are incorrect
- Corruption of the LGP file description inside the Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the LGP format
- Something has caused file corruption of your LGP
- The LGP is infected with a virus
- Device drivers for LGP-related hardware are out-of-date
- Windows cannot load your Microsoft Windows Application Log File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
