LGV Troubleshooting
Typical LGV Opening Challenges
Debugging Tools for Windows Disappeared
When trying to open your LGV file, you get the error "Can't Open LGV File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have Debugging Tools for Windows installed for %%os%%. The typical path of opening your LGV with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your LGV, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated Debugging Tools for Windows
Sometimes your installed version of Debugging Tools for Windows won't support your Debugging Tools For Windows Logger Log file. If you've got the wrong version of Debugging Tools for Windows installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Debugging Tools For Windows Logger Log file was created by a different (newer) version of Debugging Tools for Windows than what's installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your LGV, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Regardless, most of the LGV file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Debugging Tools for Windows installed.
Additional LGV Opening Issues
Even with the correct version of Debugging Tools for Windows installed, you can still experience difficulties opening LGVs. Other LGV opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Invalid LGV file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the LGV file description from the Registry by mistake
- Invalid installation of a LGV-associated program (eg. Debugging Tools for Windows)
- Something has caused file corruption of your LGV
- Past or present virus infection has affected your LGV
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your LGV file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Debugging Tools For Windows Logger Log file
