Understanding LPCM Issues
Frequent LPCM Opening Issues
Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker Not Present
When trying to open your LPCM file, you get the error "Can't Open LPCM File Type". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker isn't installed on your PC. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the LPCM file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: Another LPCM-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Obsolete Version of Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker
It is possible that your version of Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker isn't able to open your Movie Maker Audio file due to incompatibility. Visit the Microsoft Corporation website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker. The primary cause of this problem is that your Movie Maker Audio file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker than what's installed.
Tip: Investigate your LPCM file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening LPCM files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker installed.
Additional LPCM Opening Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker will resolve your issue. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening LPCMs. These issues include:
- LPCM file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Accidental deletion of the description of the LPCM file in the Windows registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the LPCM format
- Your LPCM file is corrupted (issues with your Movie Maker Audio file itself)
- LPCM file integrity has been compromised by malware
- LPCM-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Movie Maker Audio format
