Troubleshooting Problems Opening MAD Files
Typical MAD Opening Challenges
Media Player Classic Isn't There
You attempt to load your MAD file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The MAD File Extension". Usually, this is because you do not have Media Player Classic for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your MAD file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens MAD files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Outdated Media Player Classic
It is possible that your version of Media Player Classic isn't able to open your Electronic Arts Madcow Movie File file due to incompatibility. If you've got the wrong version of Media Player Classic installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Investigate your MAD file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: Not having the right Media Player Classic version on your computer can cause problems opening MAD files.
Other MAD File Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Media Player Classic will resolve your issue. If you're still experiencing problems opening MAD files, there could be other computer problems. Problems unrelated to software:
- Windows Registry MAD file paths that are incorrect
- The MAD file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Media Player Classic or another MAD application experienced a flawed installation
- Your MAD can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- The MAD is infected with a virus
- Drivers associated with MAD software need to be updated
- Windows cannot load your Electronic Arts Madcow Movie File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
