Understanding MAF Issues
Issues Opening MAF Files
Microsoft Notepad is Not Installed
If you attempt to load your MAF file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open MAF Files". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Microsoft Notepad for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your MAF file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: Another MAF-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Wrong Version of Microsoft Notepad is Installed
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Microsoft Notepad installed that's incompatible with your Mutation Annotation Format File type. Download the latest Microsoft Notepad version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the MAF file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Regardless, most of the MAF file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft Notepad installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening MAFs
