MBF File Complications
Troubles Opening MBF Files
Microsoft Money is Not Installed
When trying to open your MBF file, you get the error "Can't Open MBF File Type". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Money isn't installed on your PC. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the MBF file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Money installed, and you know of another program to open your MBF file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Outdated Microsoft Money
In other instances, your Microsoft Money Backup File file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Money. Installing the latest version of Microsoft Money from Microsoft Corporation is recommended. This issue mainly occurs when your Microsoft Money Backup File file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Money than you have on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your MBF file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening MBF files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading MBF Files
Assuming you have the right Microsoft Money version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening MBF files. Other MBF opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Other contributing causes:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for MBF
- The MBF file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Invalid installation of a MBF-associated program (eg. Microsoft Money)
- MBF file corruption
- The MBF is infected with a virus
- Hardware associated with MBF has outdated drivers
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Microsoft Money Backup File file successfully
