MCL File Complications
Issues Opening MCL Files
Microsoft Windows Media Player Disappeared
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open MCL Files" when trying to open your MCL. If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Microsoft Windows Media Player for %%os%% installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your MCL with Microsoft Windows Media Player, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Windows Media Player installed, and you know of another program to open your MCL file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Wrong Version of Microsoft Windows Media Player is Installed
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Windows Media Player won't support your Windows Media Center Link File file. Installing the latest version of Microsoft Windows Media Player from Microsoft Corporation is recommended. Your Windows Media Center Link File file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Windows Media Player than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your MCL file and clicking "Properties".
Primarily, problems experienced when opening MCL files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Windows Media Player installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening MCLs
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Windows Media Player installed, you can still experience difficulties opening MCLs. If you're still experiencing problems opening MCL files, there could be other computer problems. Problems unrelated to software:

- Invalid installation of a MCL-associated program (eg. Microsoft Windows Media Player)

- Drivers associated with MCL software need to be updated
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Windows Media Center Link File files
