MCT File Complications
Issues Opening MCT Files
7-Zip is Not Installed
When trying to open your MCT file, you get the error "Can't Open MCT File Type". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because 7-Zip isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your MCT with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When another MCT application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Wrong Version of 7-Zip is Installed
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Windows Live Messenger Data File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you've got the wrong version of 7-Zip installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Investigate your MCT file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of MCT file opening issues are due to not having the correct 7-Zip version installed.
