Troubleshoot MDO Files

Frequent MDO Opening Issues

Alcohol 120% is Not Installed

When you double-click your MDO file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Alcohol 120% for %%os%% installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your MDO with Alcohol 120%, so double-clicking the file won't work.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your MDO, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Incorrect Alcohol 120% Version

In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Alcohol 120% Split Image File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Installing the latest version of Alcohol 120% from Alcohol Soft is recommended. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.

Tip: If you right-click on your MDO file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Primarily, problems experienced when opening MDO files are due to having the incorrect version of Alcohol 120% installed on your computer.

Additional MDO Opening Issues

Assuming you have the right Alcohol 120% version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening MDO files. If you are still having problems opening MDO files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):

  • MDO file type Registry entries are wrong
  • The MDO file description within the Windows Registry was removed
  • Defective install of a MDO program, such as Alcohol 120%
  • File corruption affecting your MDO file
  • The MDO is infected with a virus
  • Device drivers for MDO-related hardware are out-of-date
  • Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Alcohol 120% Split Image File file successfully
