Sources of MDZ Problems
Frequent MDZ Opening Issues
Microsoft Access Not Present
When you double-click your MDZ file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Access is not installed on %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your MDZ because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your MDZ, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated Microsoft Access
Your Access Wizard Template file is incompatible with Microsoft Access because you might have the wrong version installed. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Access if you don't have the right version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the MDZ file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: Not having the right Microsoft Access version on your computer can cause problems opening MDZ files.
Additional MDZ Opening Issues
Errors opening Access Wizard Template files can still occur even with the latest Microsoft Access software installed on your computer. If you are still having problems opening MDZ files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These issues include:
- MDZ file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- The MDZ file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Defective install of a MDZ program, such as Microsoft Access
- Your MDZ file is corrupted (issues with your Access Wizard Template file itself)
- Your MDZ has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware associated with MDZ has outdated drivers
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Access Wizard Template file
