Troubleshooting Problems Opening MG1 Files
Typical MG1 Opening Challenges
Music Genesis Removed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open MG1 Files" when trying to open your MG1. When this happens, it is commonly due to Music Genesis missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the MG1 file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your MG1 file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Music Genesis is Out-of-Date
In other instances, your MusiGenesis Project file version may not be supported by your version of Music Genesis. If you do not have the proper version Music Genesis (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. The primary cause of this problem is that your MusiGenesis Project file was created by a different (newer) version of Music Genesis than what's installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your MG1 file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening MG1 files are due to having the incorrect version of Music Genesis installed on your computer.
Other Causes of MG1 File Opening Problems
Assuming you have the right Music Genesis version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening MG1 files. If you are still having problems opening MG1 files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Problems unrelated to software:
- MG1 file type Registry entries are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the MG1 file inside the Windows Registry
- Partial installation of Music Genesis that did not fully complete
- File corruption affecting your MG1 file
- The MG1 is infected with a virus
- Device drivers for MG1-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the MusiGenesis Project file
