MGX File Complications
Common MGX Opening Problems
Missing Rise Of Nations
You attempt to load your MGX file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The MGX File Extension". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Rise Of Nations for %%os%% installed on your computer. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the MGX file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your MGX, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated Rise Of Nations
Your Rise Of Nations Saved Game file is incompatible with Rise Of Nations because you might have the wrong version installed. If you've got the wrong version of Rise Of Nations installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Your Rise Of Nations Saved Game file was probably created by a newer release of Rise Of Nations than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of MGX file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening MGX files are due to having the wrong version of Rise Of Nations installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading MGX Files
Assuming you have the right Rise Of Nations version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening MGX files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening MGXs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- MGX file type Registry entries are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the MGX file inside the Windows Registry
- Defective install of a MGX program, such as Rise Of Nations
- Your MGX file is corrupted (issues with your Rise Of Nations Saved Game file itself)
- MGX file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Hardware associated with MGX has outdated drivers
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Rise Of Nations Saved Game file
