MHTM Troubleshooting
Common MHTM Opening Problems
Internet Explorer Removed
When trying to open your MHTM file, you get the error "Can't Open MHTM File Type". Customarily, this means that Internet Explorer is not installed on %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens MHTM files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Internet Explorer is Out-of-Date
Your Mime HTML (MHTML) File file is incompatible with Internet Explorer because you might have the wrong version installed. Installing the latest version of Internet Explorer from Microsoft Corporation is recommended. Your Mime HTML (MHTML) File file was probably created by a newer release of Internet Explorer than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the MHTM file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening MHTM files are due to having the incorrect version of Internet Explorer installed on your computer.
Other MHTM File Issues
You can still experience errors opening MHTM files even with the latest version of Internet Explorer installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading MHTM files, other external issues might be to blame. Problems unrelated to software:
- Windows Registry MHTM file paths that are incorrect
- Accidental deletion of the description of the MHTM file in the Windows registry
- Invalid installation of a MHTM-associated program (eg. Internet Explorer)
- MHTM file corruption
- MHTM file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Hardware associated with MHTM has outdated drivers
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Mime HTML (MHTML) File file successfully
