MHTML Troubleshooting
Issues Opening MHTML Files
Internet Explorer is Not Installed
When trying to open your MHTML file, you get the error "Can't Open MHTML File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have Internet Explorer installed for %%os%%. The typical path of opening your MHTML with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens MHTML files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Internet Explorer is Out-of-Date
In other instances, your Mime HTML (MHTML) File file version may not be supported by your version of Internet Explorer. Installing the latest version of Internet Explorer from Microsoft Corporation is recommended. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Investigate your MHTML file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: Not having the right Internet Explorer version on your computer can cause problems opening MHTML files.
Other MHTML File Opening Causes
Assuming you have the right Internet Explorer version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening MHTML files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading MHTML files, other external issues might be to blame. Problems unrelated to software:
- MHTML file type Registry entries are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the MHTML file inside the Windows Registry
- Partial installation of Internet Explorer that did not fully complete
- Your MHTML can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- The MHTML is infected with a virus
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your MHTML file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Mime HTML (MHTML) File files
