MKE File Complications
Issues Opening MKE Files
Microsoft .NET Framework is Not Installed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open MKE Files" when trying to open your MKE. Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft .NET Framework isn't installed on your PC. The OS won't know what to do with your MKE file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: Another MKE-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Outdated Microsoft .NET Framework
It is possible that your version of Microsoft .NET Framework isn't able to open your Microsoft Windows SDK Make Data file due to incompatibility. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft .NET Framework if you don't have the right version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Right-clicking on your MKE, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening MKE files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft .NET Framework installed.
Other MKE File Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Microsoft .NET Framework will resolve your issue. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening MKEs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- File references in the Windows Registry for MKE are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the MKE file inside the Windows Registry
- Partial installation of Microsoft .NET Framework that did not fully complete
- File corruption affecting your MKE file
- Your MKE is infected with malware
- Drivers associated with MKE software need to be updated
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Microsoft Windows SDK Make Data file
