MLC Troubleshooting
Typical MLC Opening Challenges
Microsoft Windows is Not Installed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open MLC Files" when trying to open your MLC. Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Windows isn't installed on your PC. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the MLC file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your MLC, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Wrong Version of Microsoft Windows is Installed
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Windows won't support your Microsoft Language Interface Pack file. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Windows (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Your Microsoft Language Interface Pack file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Windows than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your MLC, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Conclusion: The majority of MLC file opening issues are due to not having the correct Microsoft Windows version installed.
Other Causes of MLC File Opening Problems
Assuming you have the right Microsoft Windows version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening MLC files. Other MLC opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Issues that aren't software-related:
- MLC file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry MLC description
- Partial installation of Microsoft Windows that did not fully complete
- Your MLC file is corrupted (issues with your Microsoft Language Interface Pack file itself)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your MLC
- Device drivers for MLC-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Microsoft Language Interface Pack file
