MN2 File Complications
Issues Opening MN2 Files
Interplay Descent 2 Not Present
When trying to open your MN2 file, you get the error "Can't Open MN2 File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have Interplay Descent 2 installed for %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your MN2 because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you don't have Interplay Descent 2 installed, and you know of another program to open your MN2 file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Interplay Descent 2 is Out-of-Date
It is possible that your version of Interplay Descent 2 isn't able to open your Descent 2 Mission File file due to incompatibility. You will need to download a newer version of Interplay Descent 2 if you don't have the right version. Your Descent 2 Mission File file was probably created by a newer release of Interplay Descent 2 than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your MN2 file and clicking "Properties".
Regardless, most of the MN2 file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Interplay Descent 2 installed.
Other MN2 File Issues
Even with the correct version of Interplay Descent 2 installed, you can still experience difficulties opening MN2s. If you are still having problems opening MN2 files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Additional factors include:
- Invalid MN2 file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Unintentional removal of the description of the MN2 file inside the Windows Registry
- Interplay Descent 2 or another MN2 application experienced a flawed installation
- Your MN2 can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- The MN2 is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to MN2s has device driver corruption
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Descent 2 Mission File file
