MRK Troubleshooting
Typical MRK Opening Challenges
Missing Microsoft Notepad
If you attempt to load your MRK file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open MRK Files". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Notepad is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your MRK with Microsoft Notepad, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: Another MRK-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Wrong Version of Microsoft Notepad is Installed
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a DPOF Auto Print Order File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Notepad (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your DPOF Auto Print Order File file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Notepad than you have on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of MRK file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening MRK files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft Notepad installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening MRKs
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Microsoft Notepad will resolve your issue. If you are still having problems opening MRK files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Other contributing causes:
- Invalid MRK file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Accidental deletion of the description of the MRK file in the Windows registry
- Invalid installation of a MRK-associated program (eg. Microsoft Notepad)
- Your MRK can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your MRK is infected with malware
- Drivers associated with MRK software need to be updated
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your DPOF Auto Print Order File file successfully
