Troubleshoot MS-ONE-STUB Files
Issues Opening MS-ONE-STUB Files
Microsoft OneNote Not Present
If you attempt to load your MS-ONE-STUB file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open MS-ONE-STUB Files". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft OneNote missing in %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your MS-ONE-STUB because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your MS-ONE-STUB, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Obsolete Version of Microsoft OneNote
Your Microsoft OneNote Stub Data file is incompatible with Microsoft OneNote because you might have the wrong version installed. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft OneNote installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Your Microsoft OneNote Stub Data file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft OneNote than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of MS-ONE-STUB file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening MS-ONE-STUB files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
