MSH1 Troubleshooting
Common MSH1 Opening Problems
Microsoft Windows Shell Removed
When trying to open your MSH1 file, you get the error "Can't Open MSH1 File Type". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Windows Shell isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your MSH1 with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your MSH1 file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Wrong Version of Microsoft Windows Shell is Installed
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Windows Shell won't support your Microsoft Shell Script File file. Download the latest Microsoft Windows Shell version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Your Microsoft Shell Script File file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Windows Shell than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your MSH1, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening MSH1 files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft Windows Shell installed.
Other MSH1 File Opening Causes
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Microsoft Windows Shell will resolve your issue. If you are still having problems opening MSH1 files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- File references in the Windows Registry for MSH1 are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the MSH1 file inside the Windows Registry
- Microsoft Windows Shell or another MSH1 application experienced a flawed installation
- File corruption affecting your MSH1 file
- Your MSH1 has adversely impacted by malware
- MSH1-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Microsoft Shell Script File files
