Troubleshoot MSH1XML Files
Common Problems Opening MSH1XML Files
Microsoft Notepad Isn't There
When you double-click your MSH1XML file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Notepad is not installed on %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When another MSH1XML application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Wrong Version of Microsoft Notepad is Installed
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Monad Display Configuration File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Notepad (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is predominately due to having a Monad Display Configuration File file version that was created by a newer version of Microsoft Notepad than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your MSH1XML, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Conclusion: The majority of MSH1XML file opening issues are due to not having the correct Microsoft Notepad version installed.
Additional MSH1XML Opening Issues
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Notepad installed, you can still experience difficulties opening MSH1XMLs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening MSH1XMLs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- MSH1XML file type Registry entries are wrong
- Accidental deletion of the description of the MSH1XML file in the Windows registry
- Defective install of a MSH1XML program, such as Microsoft Notepad
- The MSH1XML itself is corrupted
- Past or present virus infection has affected your MSH1XML
- MSH1XML-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Monad Display Configuration File file successfully
