MSO File Complications
Frequent MSO Opening Issues
Microsoft Organization Chart Removed
If you attempt to load your MSO file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open MSO Files". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Organization Chart missing in %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When another MSO application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Outdated Microsoft Organization Chart
It is possible that your version of Microsoft Organization Chart isn't able to open your Microsoft Organization Chart Data File file due to incompatibility. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Organization Chart (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is predominately due to having a Microsoft Organization Chart Data File file version that was created by a newer version of Microsoft Organization Chart than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your MSO file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Regardless, most of the MSO file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft Organization Chart installed.
Other MSO File Issues
Assuming you have the right Microsoft Organization Chart version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening MSO files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening MSOs. Problems unrelated to software:
- Windows Registry MSO file paths that are incorrect
- Deletion of the MSO file description from the Registry by mistake
- Corrupt install of Microsoft Organization Chart or other MSO-related program
- The MSO itself is corrupted
- Your MSO has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware associated with MSO has outdated drivers
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Microsoft Organization Chart Data File files
