MSW File Complications
Typical MSW Opening Challenges
Corel Painter Disappeared
Double-clicking your MSW file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open MSW File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Corel Painter isn't installed on your PC. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your MSW, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated Corel Painter
It is possible that your version of Corel Painter isn't able to open your Painter Color Mixer Swatches File file due to incompatibility. Download the latest Corel Painter version from the Corel website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Your Painter Color Mixer Swatches File file was probably created by a newer release of Corel Painter than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your MSW file and clicking "Properties".
Primarily, problems experienced when opening MSW files are due to having the incorrect version of Corel Painter installed on your computer.
Other MSW File Issues
Even with the correct version of Corel Painter installed, you can still experience difficulties opening MSWs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening MSWs. Problems unrelated to software:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for MSW
- The MSW file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Invalid installation of a MSW-associated program (eg. Corel Painter)
- MSW file corruption
- Your MSW is infected with malware
- Device drivers for MSW-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Painter Color Mixer Swatches File files
