Troubleshoot MVA Files
Typical MVA Opening Challenges
Microsoft Windows Removed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open MVA Files" when trying to open your MVA. Customarily, this means that Microsoft Windows is not installed on %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the MVA file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your MVA file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Incorrect Microsoft Windows Version
In other instances, your Microsoft Setup Archive file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Windows. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Windows if you don't have the right version. This issue mainly occurs when your Microsoft Setup Archive file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Windows than you have on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of MVA file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Conclusion: The majority of MVA file opening issues are due to not having the correct Microsoft Windows version installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading MVA Files
You can still experience errors opening MVA files even with the latest version of Microsoft Windows installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading MVA files, other external issues might be to blame. Issues that aren't software-related:
- MVA file type Registry entries are wrong
- Deletion of the MVA file description from the Registry by mistake
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the MVA format
- File corruption affecting your MVA file
- MVA file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Hardware related to MVAs has device driver corruption
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Microsoft Setup Archive files
