Sources of NCH Problems
Issues Opening NCH Files
Microsoft Outlook Express Disappeared
When trying to open your NCH file, you get the error "Can't Open NCH File Type". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Outlook Express is not installed on %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your NCH file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Wrong Version of Microsoft Outlook Express is Installed
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Outlook Express won't support your On Hold Message/Music File file. Download the latest Microsoft Outlook Express version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your On Hold Message/Music File file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft Outlook Express than what's installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the NCH file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening NCH files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft Outlook Express installed.
Other Causes of NCH File Opening Problems
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Microsoft Outlook Express will resolve your issue. If you are still having problems opening NCH files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Additional factors include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for NCH are wrong
- Corruption of the NCH file description inside the Registry
- Partial installation of Microsoft Outlook Express that did not fully complete
- File corruption affecting your NCH file
- Your NCH has adversely impacted by malware
- Drivers associated with NCH software need to be updated
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the On Hold Message/Music File format
