Troubleshooting Problems Opening NIP Files
Common Problems Opening NIP Files
Microsoft Windows Media Player Disappeared
You attempt to load your NIP file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The NIP File Extension". Usually, this is because you do not have Microsoft Windows Media Player for %%os%% installed. Your operating system cannot associate your NIP with Microsoft Windows Media Player, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your NIP, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Microsoft Windows Media Player Requires Update
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Microsoft DRM (Digital Right Management) File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Visit the Microsoft Corporation website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Microsoft Windows Media Player. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Investigate your NIP file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of NIP file opening issues are due to not having the correct Microsoft Windows Media Player version installed.
Other Causes of NIP File Opening Problems
Errors opening Microsoft DRM (Digital Right Management) File files can still occur even with the latest Microsoft Windows Media Player software installed on your computer. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening NIPs. These issues include:
- Windows Registry NIP file paths that are incorrect
- Deletion of the NIP file description from the Registry by mistake
- Partial installation of Microsoft Windows Media Player that did not fully complete
- Something has caused file corruption of your NIP
- The NIP is infected with a virus
- NIP-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Microsoft DRM (Digital Right Management) File file
