OAB File Complications
Typical OAB Opening Challenges
Microsoft Outlook Removed
Double-clicking your OAB file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open OAB File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Outlook isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your OAB with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your OAB, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Microsoft Outlook Requires Update
Your Offline Address Book file is incompatible with Microsoft Outlook because you might have the wrong version installed. Download the latest Microsoft Outlook version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Most of the time your Offline Address Book file was created by a newer Microsoft Outlook than what you have installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your OAB file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of OAB file opening issues are due to not having the correct Microsoft Outlook version installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading OAB Files
You can still experience errors opening OAB files even with the latest version of Microsoft Outlook installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading OAB files, other external issues might be to blame. Additional factors include:

- Accidental deletion of the description of the OAB file in the Windows registry
- Microsoft Outlook or another OAB application experienced a flawed installation
- Something has caused file corruption of your OAB
- Your OAB is infected with malware
- Drivers associated with OAB software need to be updated
- Windows cannot load your Offline Address Book file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
