OLM Troubleshooting
Common Problems Opening OLM Files
Microsoft Outlook 2016 Not Present
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open OLM Files" when trying to open your OLM. Customarily, this means that Microsoft Outlook 2016 is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your OLM with Microsoft Outlook 2016, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your OLM file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Outdated Microsoft Outlook 2016
It is possible that your version of Microsoft Outlook 2016 isn't able to open your Mac Outlook Database File file due to incompatibility. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft Outlook 2016 installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your OLM file and clicking "Properties".
Regardless, most of the OLM file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft Outlook 2016 installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening OLMs
Although you might already have Microsoft Outlook 2016 or another OLM-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Mac Outlook Database File files. Other OLM opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- OLM file type Registry entries are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the OLM file inside the Windows Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the OLM format
- Your OLM file is corrupted (issues with your Mac Outlook Database File file itself)
- Your OLM has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your OLM file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Mac Outlook Database File file
