Sources of OPT Problems
Common Problems Opening OPT Files
LexisNexis Concordance Disappeared
You attempt to load your OPT file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The OPT File Extension". Customarily, this means that LexisNexis Concordance is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your OPT with LexisNexis Concordance, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your OPT, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Obsolete Version of LexisNexis Concordance
It is possible that your version of LexisNexis Concordance isn't able to open your Concordance Database File file due to incompatibility. If you've got the wrong version of LexisNexis Concordance installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the OPT file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: Not having the right LexisNexis Concordance version on your computer can cause problems opening OPT files.
Other OPT File Opening Causes
You can still experience errors opening OPT files even with the latest version of LexisNexis Concordance installed on your PC. If you are still having problems opening OPT files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- File references in the Windows Registry for OPT are wrong
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry OPT description
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the OPT format
- Your OPT file is corrupted (issues with your Concordance Database File file itself)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your OPT
- Drivers associated with OPT software need to be updated
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Concordance Database File files
