OSS File Complications
Troubles Opening OSS Files
Microsoft Outlook is Not Installed
You attempt to load your OSS file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The OSS File Extension". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Outlook isn't installed on your PC. The OS won't know what to do with your OSS file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your OSS file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Wrong Version of Microsoft Outlook is Installed
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Microsoft Outlook Saved Search File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Outlook if you don't have the right version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Microsoft Outlook Saved Search File file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft Outlook than what's installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of OSS file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Regardless, most of the OSS file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft Outlook installed.
Other OSS File Issues
Although you might already have Microsoft Outlook or another OSS-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Microsoft Outlook Saved Search File files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening OSSs. These issues include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for OSS are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the OSS file inside the Windows Registry
- Corrupt install of Microsoft Outlook or other OSS-related program
- The OSS itself is corrupted
- Past or present virus infection has affected your OSS
- Hardware associated with OSS has outdated drivers
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Microsoft Outlook Saved Search File files
