PCI File Complications
Issues Opening PCI Files
Microsoft Windows Removed
If you attempt to load your PCI file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open PCI Files". If so, it typically means that you don't have Microsoft Windows installed for %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your PCI because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: Another PCI-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Microsoft Windows is Out-of-Date
It is possible that your version of Microsoft Windows isn't able to open your PCI Miniport Data file due to incompatibility. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft Windows installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This issue mainly occurs when your PCI Miniport Data file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Windows than you have on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the PCI file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: Not having the right Microsoft Windows version on your computer can cause problems opening PCI files.
Other PCI File Issues
Assuming you have the right Microsoft Windows version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening PCI files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading PCI files, other external issues might be to blame. Other contributing causes:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for PCI
- Deletion of the PCI file description from the Registry by mistake
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the PCI format
- PCI file corruption
- PCI file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Hardware associated with PCI has outdated drivers
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your PCI Miniport Data file
