Sources of PLG Problems
Issues Opening PLG Files
Missing Microsoft Visual Studio
You attempt to load your PLG file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The PLG File Extension". If so, it typically means that you don't have Microsoft Visual Studio installed for %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the PLG file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens PLG files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Outdated Microsoft Visual Studio
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Visual Studio won't support your Visual Studio Build Log File file. If you do not have the proper version Microsoft Visual Studio (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Your Visual Studio Build Log File file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Visual Studio than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Investigate your PLG file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening PLG files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening PLGs
Assuming you have the right Microsoft Visual Studio version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening PLG files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening PLG files. Problems unrelated to software:
- PLG file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- The PLG file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Corrupt install of Microsoft Visual Studio or other PLG-related program
