Troubleshoot PMQ Files
Issues Opening PMQ Files
Microsoft Windows Embedded Studio Disappeared
If you attempt to load your PMQ file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open PMQ Files". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Windows Embedded Studio isn't installed on your PC. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Windows Embedded Studio installed, and you know of another program to open your PMQ file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Wrong Version of Microsoft Windows Embedded Studio is Installed
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Microsoft Windows Embedded Studio installed that's incompatible with your Microsoft Target Analyzer File type. If you've got the wrong version of Microsoft Windows Embedded Studio installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the PMQ file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: Not having the right Microsoft Windows Embedded Studio version on your computer can cause problems opening PMQ files.
Other Causes of PMQ File Opening Problems
