Sources of PPKG Problems
Frequent PPKG Opening Issues
Microsoft Windows is Not Installed
When you double-click your PPKG file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Windows missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the PPKG file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your PPKG file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Microsoft Windows is Out-of-Date
Sometimes your installed version of Microsoft Windows won't support your Microsoft Windows Provisioning Package file. Download the latest Microsoft Windows version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your Microsoft Windows Provisioning Package file was created by a different (newer) version of Microsoft Windows than what's installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the PPKG file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening PPKG files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
