PRA File Complications
Troubles Opening PRA Files
CADRA Not Present
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open PRA Files" when trying to open your PRA. If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have CADRA for %%os%% installed on your computer. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the PRA file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When another PRA application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Incorrect CADRA Version
Sometimes your installed version of CADRA won't support your CADRA Design Drafting Software Data file. You will need to download a newer version of CADRA if you don't have the right version. The primary cause of this problem is that your CADRA Design Drafting Software Data file was created by a different (newer) version of CADRA than what's installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your PRA file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Regardless, most of the PRA file opening problems relate to not having the right version of CADRA installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading PRA Files
Errors opening CADRA Design Drafting Software Data files can still occur even with the latest CADRA software installed on your computer. If you're still experiencing problems opening PRA files, there could be other computer problems. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Invalid PRA file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Corruption of the PRA file description inside the Registry
- Invalid installation of a PRA-associated program (eg. CADRA)
- The PRA itself is corrupted
- The PRA is infected with a virus
- Device drivers for PRA-related hardware are out-of-date
- Windows cannot load your CADRA Design Drafting Software Data file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
