Understanding PRD Issues
Typical PRD Opening Challenges
Softmaker Office Isn't There
Double-clicking your PRD file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open PRD File". When this happens, it is commonly due to Softmaker Office missing in %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens PRD files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Obsolete Version of Softmaker Office
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a SoftMaker Presentations Document file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version Softmaker Office (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is predominately due to having a SoftMaker Presentations Document file version that was created by a newer version of Softmaker Office than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your PRD, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Regardless, most of the PRD file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Softmaker Office installed.
Other Causes of PRD File Opening Problems
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Softmaker Office will resolve your issue. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening PRDs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for PRD
- Accidental deletion of the description of the PRD file in the Windows registry
- Softmaker Office or another PRD application experienced a flawed installation
- Your PRD can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your PRD
- Device drivers for PRD-related hardware are out-of-date
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your SoftMaker Presentations Document file
Quiz: Which of these is considered a vector image file?
That's Correct!
The unique thing about vector files such as AI and EPS is that graphic details (eg. sizes and shapes of objects) and text remains editable. This allows you can save and re-open them in Illustrator and edit text or other elements within the graphic.
