PROPS Troubleshooting
Troubles Opening PROPS Files
Microsoft Visual Studio is Not Installed
You attempt to load your PROPS file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The PROPS File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Visual Studio missing in %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your PROPS file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your PROPS file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Incorrect Microsoft Visual Studio Version
In other instances, your Microsoft Visual Studio Property Sheet file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Visual Studio. Visit the Microsoft Corporation website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Microsoft Visual Studio. This problem is predominately due to having a Microsoft Visual Studio Property Sheet file version that was created by a newer version of Microsoft Visual Studio than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of PROPS file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening PROPS files are due to having the wrong version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading PROPS Files
Although you might already have Microsoft Visual Studio or another PROPS-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Microsoft Visual Studio Property Sheet files. If you're still experiencing problems opening PROPS files, there could be other computer problems. Additional factors include:
- Invalid PROPS file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Corruption of the PROPS file description inside the Registry
- Defective install of a PROPS program, such as Microsoft Visual Studio
- PROPS file corruption
- The PROPS is infected with a virus
- Device drivers for PROPS-related hardware are out-of-date
- Windows cannot load your Microsoft Visual Studio Property Sheet file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
