PUZ File Complications
Common PUZ Opening Problems
Across Lite Isn't There
When trying to open your PUZ file, you get the error "Can't Open PUZ File Type". Customarily, this means that Across Lite is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your PUZ with Across Lite, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your PUZ, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated Across Lite
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Across Lite Crossword Puzzle file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version Across Lite (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Most of the time your Across Lite Crossword Puzzle file was created by a newer Across Lite than what you have installed.
Tip: Investigate your PUZ file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening PUZ files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading PUZ Files
You can still experience errors opening PUZ files even with the latest version of Across Lite installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading PUZ files, other external issues might be to blame. Additional factors include:
- Invalid PUZ file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the PUZ file description from the Registry by mistake
- Defective install of a PUZ program, such as Across Lite
- Your PUZ file is corrupted (issues with your Across Lite Crossword Puzzle file itself)
- PUZ file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Drivers associated with PUZ software need to be updated
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Across Lite Crossword Puzzle file
