PWD File Complications

Common PWD Opening Problems

Softmaker Office is Not Installed

Double-clicking your PWD file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open PWD File". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Softmaker Office for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your PWD file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: Another PWD-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.

Wrong Version of Softmaker Office is Installed

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Softmaker Office installed that's incompatible with your Microsoft Pocket Word Document type. If you've got the wrong version of Softmaker Office installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Your Microsoft Pocket Word Document file was probably created by a newer release of Softmaker Office than what's currently installed your computer.

Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the PWD file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.

Primarily, problems experienced when opening PWD files are due to having the incorrect version of Softmaker Office installed on your computer.

Other PWD File Opening Causes

Assuming you have the right Softmaker Office version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening PWD files. Other PWD opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Problems unrelated to software:

  • File references in the Windows Registry for PWD are wrong
  • The PWD file description within the Windows Registry was removed
  • Softmaker Office or another PWD application experienced a flawed installation
  • File corruption affecting your PWD file
  • PWD file integrity has been compromised by malware
  • Device drivers for PWD-related hardware are out-of-date
  • Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Microsoft Pocket Word Document format
