PWT File Complications
Typical PWT Opening Challenges
Missing Autodesk AutoCAD
You attempt to load your PWT file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The PWT File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to Autodesk AutoCAD missing in %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your PWT file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your PWT file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Wrong Version of Autodesk AutoCAD is Installed
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a AutoCAD Publish To Web Template file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Visit the Autodesk, Inc. website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Autodesk AutoCAD. Your AutoCAD Publish To Web Template file was probably created by a newer release of Autodesk AutoCAD than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of PWT file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening PWT files are due to having the wrong version of Autodesk AutoCAD installed.
Other PWT File Issues
Although you might already have Autodesk AutoCAD or another PWT-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening AutoCAD Publish To Web Template files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening PWT files. Other contributing causes:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for PWT
- Deletion of the PWT file description from the Registry by mistake
- Invalid installation of a PWT-associated program (eg. Autodesk AutoCAD)
- Your PWT can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your PWT
- Hardware related to PWTs has device driver corruption
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the AutoCAD Publish To Web Template format
