Troubleshooting Problems Opening QDE Files

Common QDE Opening Problems

Missing MS-DOS

If you attempt to load your QDE file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open QDE Files". When this happens, it is commonly due to MS-DOS missing in %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.

Tip: If you have another software that you know opens QDE files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.

Outdated MS-DOS

Your QDOS Executable file is incompatible with MS-DOS because you might have the wrong version installed. Installing the latest version of MS-DOS from Microsoft Corporation is recommended. Most of the time your QDOS Executable file was created by a newer MS-DOS than what you have installed.

Tip: Investigate your QDE file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Primarily, problems experienced when opening QDE files are due to having the incorrect version of MS-DOS installed on your computer.

Other QDE File Issues

You can still experience errors opening QDE files even with the latest version of MS-DOS installed on your PC. If you are still having problems opening QDE files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Issues that aren't software-related:

  • QDE file type Registry entries are wrong
  • Corruption of the QDE file description inside the Registry
  • MS-DOS or another QDE application experienced a flawed installation
  • Your QDE can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
  • The QDE is infected with a virus
  • Hardware associated with QDE has outdated drivers
  • Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the QDOS Executable file
