Understanding RC3 Issues
Frequent RC3 Opening Issues
Microsoft Visual C++ Removed
Double-clicking your RC3 file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open RC3 File". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Visual C++ is not installed on %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the RC3 file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your RC3, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Microsoft Visual C++ Requires Update
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Vc98/Visual C Resource File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ if you don't have the right version. This issue mainly occurs when your Vc98/Visual C Resource File file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ than you have on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your RC3 file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening RC3 files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Visual C++ installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening RC3s
Although you might already have Microsoft Visual C++ or another RC3-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Vc98/Visual C Resource File files. Other RC3 opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Other contributing causes:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for RC3
- The RC3 file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the RC3 format
- Your RC3 can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your RC3
- RC3-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Vc98/Visual C Resource File file
