RESOURCES Troubleshooting

Common RESOURCES Opening Problems

Microsoft Visual Studio is Not Installed

If you attempt to load your RESOURCES file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open RESOURCES Files". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Visual Studio missing in %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your RESOURCES because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: If you have another software that you know opens RESOURCES files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.

Incorrect Microsoft Visual Studio Version

In other instances, your Microsoft Visual Studio Resource file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Visual Studio. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Visual Studio if you don't have the right version. Most of the time your Microsoft Visual Studio Resource file was created by a newer Microsoft Visual Studio than what you have installed.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your RESOURCES file and clicking "Properties".

Primarily, problems experienced when opening RESOURCES files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed on your computer.

Other Causes of RESOURCES File Opening Problems

You can still experience errors opening RESOURCES files even with the latest version of Microsoft Visual Studio installed on your PC. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening RESOURCESs. Other contributing causes:

  • RESOURCES file type Registry entries are wrong
  • Accidental deletion of the description of the RESOURCES file in the Windows registry
  • Partial installation of Microsoft Visual Studio that did not fully complete
  • RESOURCES file corruption
  • Past or present virus infection has affected your RESOURCES
  • Hardware associated with RESOURCES has outdated drivers
  • Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Microsoft Visual Studio Resource file successfully
