RH File Complications
Troubles Opening RH Files
Microsoft Visual C++ Disappeared
Double-clicking your RH file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open RH File". If so, it typically means that you don't have Microsoft Visual C++ installed for %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your RH with Microsoft Visual C++, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Visual C++ installed, and you know of another program to open your RH file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Outdated Microsoft Visual C++
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a C++ Resource Header Data file that is unsupported by your installed application version. You will need to download a newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a C++ Resource Header Data file version that was created by a newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your RH file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: Not having the right Microsoft Visual C++ version on your computer can cause problems opening RH files.
Additional RH Opening Issues
Errors opening C++ Resource Header Data files can still occur even with the latest Microsoft Visual C++ software installed on your computer. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening RHs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Invalid RH file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the RH file description from the Registry by mistake
- Corrupt install of Microsoft Visual C++ or other RH-related program
- Your RH can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your RH is infected with malware
- Drivers associated with RH software need to be updated
- Windows cannot load your C++ Resource Header Data file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
